Héviz is a balneological resort on the shores of the thermal lake of the same name, which is a unique creation of nature not only in Europe, but throughout the world, both in size and in chemical composition of water. The largest warm-water lake in Europe fascinates tourists with its water lilies blooming from May to November. Its healing water is rich in mineral salts, and the bottom is covered with silt with a high content of radium.
Heviz Resort is 6 km from the historic city of Keszthely.
Heviz resort is considered one of the most visited balneological resorts of the famous tourist region of Hungary, Balaton. The climate in the resort is temperate, summers are warm, long autumn, wet winters, early spring. Lake Heviz is surrounded by a protected forest of 50 hectares, which, together with air saturated with mineral water vapor and light radiation, provides the resort with a special, unique healing microclimate.
The sources that feed the lake are located in a suspicious cave at a depth of 38.5 m, the depth of the lake itself is for the most part 1.5-2 m. Warm water rises from the depths, and cooled water drops from the surface. Thanks to these oncoming streams and a vapor cloud above the lake, the water temperature in it is the same everywhere: in the summer 34-36 C, in the winter 22-24 C. The bacterial flora of lake silt gives off a weak antibiotic, therefore pathogenic bacteria are not found in the lake. The water in the lake is renewed within two days and always remains clean.
A many-meter layer of silt, which covers the bottom of the lake, also has special medicinal properties, which, from the point of view of balneology, is a cross between purely mineral mud and organic fango. Hévíz mud contains biologically active components: enzymes, hormone-like substances, biogenic stimulants, trace elements. The mineral composition is determined by a significant content of calcium and magnesium carbonates, sulfates and a small amount of radon. Mud mixed with water from a thermal spring is used for applications. The mineral springs of Heviz are also suitable for drinking – they treat chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Indications for treatment at the Heviz resort:
– diseases of the musculoskeletal system (spine, joints and connective tissues, ankylosing spondylitis).
– rheumatism of extraarticular etiology (tendon rheumatism, fibrotic syndrome);
– muscle diseases;
– post-traumatic rehabilitation;
– gynecological diseases (hormonal imbalance, menopausal complications);
– consequences of stress;
– violations of potency;
– periodontal disease;
– chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Along with the positive effect of thermal water on the human body, there are contraindications. Thermal waters for ordinary beach swimming are unsuitable due to the pronounced biological effect. It is not recommended to be in the water for longer than 30 minutes. A long stay in water causes an increased load on the heart and circulatory system. In addition, children under the age of 14 are not recommended to take long water procedures in order to avoid the effect of water on the hormonal system.
The cultural program in Heviz is very diverse. In addition to taking procedures and walking through the picturesque surroundings, guests of the resort are invited to participate in the beer and grape harvest festival, watch the performance of gypsy ensembles and the operetta popular in Hungary. During a holiday in Héviz, there is a great opportunity to visit the nearby Keszthely, as well as other resorts: Balatonederice with the famous Museum of Africa, Human Rights Park on Mount Kovacs with a snow-white Buddhist temple, and the ancient castle in Sümege.
For lovers of outdoor activities there are excellent conditions for horse riding or cycling.
Numerous restaurants, cafes, pastry shops, night bars offer a variety of dishes and drinks of national Hungarian cuisine.
