Costa Dorada

Costa Daurada (“Gold Coast”) – the coast of the province of Tarragona got its name by chance: the fine sand of endless beaches glistens in the waves of the Mediterranean Sea, like placers of gold. From the winds and cyclones from the north and west, the Mediterranean coast is well protected first by the Pyrenees, and then by the Catalan mountains. They not only decorate the landscape, but also create a wonderful sustainable climate – just look at the local palm trees, pines and cypresses. Thanks to the mountains in Costa Daurada, the weather is fine from March to October, which is why tourists come here almost all year.

In just twenty years after the death of dictator Franco, a quiet and cheap provincial corner with half-empty beaches has turned into a tourist center of European significance. This was facilitated not only by the climate, but also by the fact that you can get to Costa Daurada from anywhere in Western Europe by direct flight.

In Costa Daurada, you can find several towns that have retained their identity with Spanish pride. First of all, it is Tarragona, a very ancient city in southern Catalonia, where many archaeological sites of the Roman Empire era have been preserved. Tarragona houses the famous Ducados tobacco factory. In addition, the city has many museums and a very interesting cathedral.

On the way from Barcelona to Tarragona, near the modern freeway, stands an aqueduct built by the “slaves of Rome”. This ancient water supply has a length of more than two hundred meters. Locals call it “Puente del Diablo” – “Devil’s Bridge”.

Small, cozy coastal hotels and restaurants are increasingly being absorbed by multi-story hotels. Huge and well-equipped campsites, spreading off the coast, attract hordes of motorists with tents and wagons. Restaurants, discos, attractions, giant shopping complexes and various water parks are able to satisfy any needs at any time of the day or night.

All this has led to the fact that Costa Daurada has become a center not only for mass tourism, but also for cheap tourism. Despite the large influx of holidaymakers, Costa Daurada, in general, still remains the “golden coast”, and the water is considered quite clean. This is explained by the fact that the beaches here are endless, and the control over the quality of water is not as severe as we would like, especially near Barcelona.

Salou is the most popular resort center of the coast, recognized as the “tourist capital” of Costa Daurada. With the wonderful charm of a coastal city, Salou offers its guests a lot of interesting things. Beautiful promenades stretching along the coastline, luxurious tropical vegetation, developed infrastructure of the city, represented by numerous shops, bars, restaurants and cafes designed for every taste, making Salou an ideal place for youth recreation.

Cambrils is an old fishing port that has recently become a popular tourist destination on the Costa Daurada. This small town, located a few kilometers south of Salou and 130 km from Barcelona, which grew up on the site of a medieval village, has long been famous for its fish market and wonderful restaurants where visitors can enjoy the generous gifts of the Mediterranean Sea.

La Pineda is a fairly young, dynamically developing resort center. This is the only city on the Costa Daurada where pine trees grow, under the canopy of which it is so pleasant to stroll, enjoying the fresh aroma of pine needles. And Miami Playa, a small fishing village 25 km from Tarragona, is an ideal place for families.

Sitges is an old Catalan city and a popular seaside resort on the Costa Daurada.

Calafell is a small village by the sea. There are beautiful beaches stretching for many kilometers, calm and warm coastal waters, a gentle entrance to the sea, which is important for families with children.
Modern comfortable hotels are not all that attract thousands of tourists from all over Europe every year. Eurosport is for lovers of outdoor activities and entertainment, a beautiful sports complex equipped with the latest technology, a magnificent water park full of various attractions, most of which are suitable for children, as well as Pineda Drink, a complex that combines many restaurants, bars and cafes, where visitors A rich selection of Spanish and Catalan cuisine is offered.

For those who are drawn to the mountains, South Catalonia is also a very interesting region. A few kilometers separate the beaches from the Prades and Sierra de Pandols mountains. There is anything you want: impregnable peaks, deep canyons, and emerald-colored lakes with warm springs. In the Terra Alta area you can see ancient cave paintings. And at the beginning of the century, young Pablo Picasso was resting in the village of Horta de Sant Joan. Here his first works in the style of cubism appeared.

Every day, show programs are organized at the central boardwalk in Salou, and real concerts are organized on holidays. With the sunset and golden nights, life in the city does not stop.
