Holidays on the islands in Thailand

Thailand is the main tourist center of the region, a country with a rich history and culture, a country of thousands of temples and hundreds of islands.

There are really a lot of islands in Thailand – small and large, inhabited and wild, preserving their natural beauty, covered with forests, lakes and rivers. And from such a variety you simply fall into confusion: Where to go on vacation to Thailand?

Similan Islands (Thailand) – a group of 11 islands located in the Andaman Sea, 70 kilometers from the mainland and the province of Phang Nga. Since 1982, the territory of the Similan Islands has been a national reserve of Thailand, due to which surprisingly beautiful nature has been preserved here.

The Similan Islands in Thailand, and throughout the world, are considered the best place for diving: here you can see whale and leopard sharks, a variety of tropical fish, giant sea turtles and thickets of coral reefs.

Granite boulders the size of a house, palm forests and magnificent snow-white sandy beaches are the main advantages of the Similan Islands.

The Similan Islands are practically uninhabited, people can be found here only on two islands – Ko Similan and Ko Miang. On these islands are two large reserves.

January – April is considered the best period to visit Similan. It rains here in May and October: at this time of the year the national park is closed to visitors.

Phi Phi Islands – an archipelago located off the coast of Thailand, between the island of Phuket and the islands of Koh Lanta. Phi Phi Islands are part of Krabi Province. The archipelago includes two islands – Phi Phi Lei and Phi Phi Don.

The island of Phi Phi Don consists of two granite mountains, interconnected by a sand scythe, on both sides of which there are magnificent sandy beaches. Here are several hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants. In the afternoon, numerous guests from Phuket come here, but their influx begins to subside after two hours.

The second island – Phi Phi Lei (also called Phi Phi Leh), is a limestone block of a bizarre shape. This island is uninhabited. Phi Phi Ley has a magnificent beach, one of the most photographed places in Thailand, where the film “Beach” was shot with Leonardo di Caprio.

Phi Phi Islands, photos of which can be found in the Turvika Gallery section, are great for lovers of a relaxing romantic beach holiday and for diving enthusiasts.

It is best to visit the Phi Phi islands from November to April: at this time of the year there is relative dry weather with low (for Thailand) temperature indicators.

Ko Lanta is an archipelago located in the southern part of Thailand, on the coast of the Andaman Sea. The largest islands of the archipelago are Lanta-Noi (KoLantaNoi) and Lanta-Yai (KoLantaYai).

The main attractions of the islands of Lanta – beaches with fine white sand, mountains, covered with dense forests and mangroves. The coastal part of Lanta is a marine reserve, a paradise for scuba diving enthusiasts.

Tourism infrastructure is only on the island of Lanta-Yai, and the island of Lanta-Noi is uninhabited. The Lanta Islands are a great place for interesting excursions to nature reserves, to the village of sea gypsies and to caves with mysterious labyrinths.

The best time to visit Lanta is from November to April, when it is not so hot here.

Samui is the third largest island in Thailand and the second most popular in the country (after Phuket). Koh Samui attracts tourists with its developed infrastructure, diverse recreation opportunities, snow-white sandy beaches and good conditions for diving.

The coastal area of Samui is occupied by beaches, but, despite the island’s great popularity among tourists, it is quite calm here.

Koh Samui is perfect for family, romantic and relaxing holidays, and numerous excursions, a zoo, a butterfly garden, an aquarium and farms (crocodile, snake, monkey) will appeal to kids.

Until 1974, the bizarre limestone rock island of Ko Tapu (translated from Thai means “Rock of the Nail”) was a little-known island of Phang Nga province. After the next part of the James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun” was released on that year, Ko Tapu became a popular holiday destination and got another name – James Bond Island. Since then, thousands of tourists have visited this island.

James Bond Island is a small cliff that rises above the surface of the water by almost 20 meters, its upper part is wider than the base. This Thai island attracts hundreds of tourists precisely for its unusual appearance.
