Where to stay in Sunny Beach
Sunny Beach is a popular resort in Bulgaria, located approximately between Varna and Nessebar. This is a resort village, consisting mainly of hotels and surrendering apartments. It is considered the largest resort village in Bulgaria and stretches along the coast for ten kilometers. Administratively, Sunny Beach is considered part of Nessebar, but in reality it is a completely independent resort. It began to be built in the late 50s, and right away, along with the construction of hotels, they created a green landscape park, planting many decorative trees, so now it is one of the greenest areas of the coast.
The most popular type of public transport among tourists in Sunny Beach is real carriages with real horses, which not only run along the promenade, but can also take you to some distant hotel on the second or third line.
Sunny Beach, unlike many other Bulgarian resorts, is completely flat. It is impossible to find housing with beautiful views of the sea in the depths of the city, but it will not be necessary to climb uphill to it – the rise here is very smooth.
The beach of Sunny Beach is rightfully considered the best in Bulgaria. Wide, strewn with fine golden sand, with a smooth approach and long shallow water – it is ideal for families. Almost the entire bay from Nessebar to Elenite is one multi-kilometer strip of equipped beach: everywhere there are changing cabins, toilets, sun loungers, lifeguards are on duty everywhere, and about every 500 meters there are pools of water entertainment. The beaches themselves are free, but sunbeds and umbrellas are paid almost everywhere, except for a few five-star hotels closer to the northern tip of the bay, which have private areas. With your umbrellas you can park in free zones.
Areas of Sunny Beach
Sunny Beach can be relatively arbitrarily divided into several zones, each of which has its own characteristics. The southern part of the resort actually flows into the city of Nessebar. In the central, around Tsvetochnaya Street, the main entertainment is concentrated. North is much quieter: here are the most expensive and new hotels. Further north, the resort town of St. Vlas begins, and after it – the village of Elenite.
The residential quarter itself, which corresponds to the central part of the resort, is called “Camellia”. This is the area from which construction began once in the 1950s. Most of the hotels in this part were built thirty to forty years ago. Of course, all of them have gone through many repairs and reconstructions during this time, but they don’t differ in the new architecture either in the original architecture, in the layout, or even – in some cases. In general, in Sunny Beach, the farther south – the older the hotel buildings, although there are exceptions. The resort is growing north.
But at the same time, it is in the central part that the main entertainment is located, and it redeems a lot. This is where the Action Waterpark is located. This is a large entertainment complex with several high slides (the highest is 18 meters), a children’s area and a mini zoo. In the very center is the Sunny Beach Luna Park, next to the noisiest shopping and restaurant Flower Street. In Luna Park, a variety of attractions – both for children and extreme.
In the central part along Flower Street there are popular night clubs: there are so many of them that Sunny Beach is rightfully compared to Spanish Ibiza, the center of European night and dance life. These are Candy Club, The Flying Dutchman, Hollister Bar, etc. – each with its own specifics, music and branded alcoholic beverages.
Here is the resort’s largest shopping center, Royal Beach Mall, at the Royal Beach Barceló hotel. It is not on the embankment itself, but a little in the depths of the area. This is not an indoor shopping center, but rather a network of small pavilions (there are about 90 of them) in the open air – in the heat this can be a problem, because you can’t hide from the sun, but you can buy anything. There is a small children’s area and several restaurants.
North Beach Seagull
Seagull is one of the most popular names of districts in Bulgaria. There is its own Seagull in Varna, the Seagull is in Golden Sands, and its own Seagull is in Sunny Beach, so when choosing a hotel, be careful and specify what particular Seagull is in question.
The seagull of Sunny Beach is the most expensive, elite and prestigious part of the resort, it is also the newest. Sunny sands develop and grow precisely in the direction of the north. This part of the beach starts approximately from the Club Hotel Riu Evrika and ends with the RIU Palace Sunny Beach, which has its own private beach. The following hotels already belong to the resort of St. Vlas.
The peculiarity of the northern part of the beach is relative silence compared to the noisy center. But this silence is not related to lack of infrastructure and poverty.
