Debrecen

Debrecen is a city in eastern Hungary, the second most populated city in the country after Budapest, and the economic and cultural center of eastern Hungary. The city lies on the territory of the famous Khorobadi steppe – empty, included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.

Debrecen was first mentioned in writing in 1235. In 1361, King Lajosh I granted Debrecen the status of a free city. In the XV-XVI centuries, Debrecen became an important trading city, there were a large number of fairs, mainly agricultural. Thanks to the wise policies of the leadership of the city of Debrecen, it was possible to maintain independence; it remained a peculiar city-state, defining the internal development of local society and the formation of urban identity for centuries to come.Since the Middle Ages it has been a city of students, and then one of the “capitals” of the revolution and war of independence of Hungary in 1848-49. During World War II, the city was badly damaged.

The symbol of Debrecen – a Reformed cathedral in the style of classicism, with Puritan interior and benches for 3,000 seats, is the largest Reformed church in the country. As a relic, the chair of Lajos Kossuth (1802–1894), which April 14, 1849 proclaimed the overthrow of the Habsburgs from the throne, is stored here.

The prestige of the venerable Reformed College was won by celebrities who studied in it. Thanks to the wide network of its schools, it has become a “school of the country”. The 180-year-old building of the college hosts an exhibition dedicated to the history of the school and church art, the main exhibits of which are the authentic atmosphere of a Reformed school, ancient masterpieces of Hungarian jewelry, decorated with amazing embroidery of bedspreads, painted furniture, which is a cultural monument, a large library with rare books.

The Deri Museum has a large collection of paintings, archaeological and ethnographic exhibits. On Bösörmeni Street, you can see the largest windmill in Central Europe.

The park zone, beloved by the townspeople, has been a reserve since 1939. Here visitors are expected by a zoo, Luna Park, a botanical garden.

The therapeutic bath of the Nadierdeux Park covers an area of ​​11 thousand square meters. There are 4 pools with thermal water, baths and steam rooms. The water is alkaline chloride, hydrogen carbonate, containing iodine, bromine, sodium chloride, calcium, magnesia and metaboric acid.

Indications for treatment here are chronic degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system, diseases of the peripheral vascular system (vasoconstriction), gynecological diseases.

The available types of procedures are balneotherapy (medicinal baths, pools, carbon dioxide baths, mud therapy), hydrotherapy (weight baths, underwater jet massage), mechanotherapy (massage, therapeutic gymnastics), electrotherapy (galvanic therapy, iontophoresis, diadynamics, treatment with short waves, selective frequency electrotherapy, ultrasound treatment, interference) and hydroelectric treatment (electric baths).

The Naderdö medical bath also includes the Aquaticum water park. There, according to the organizers, on the territory of 5 thousand square meters a real Mediterranean microclimate and enchanting water entertainment system were created: pools with artificial waves, waterfalls, currents and underwater massage, swimming and games pools, all kinds of jacuzzis, cave baths, children’s water slides. So, both children and adults will get a huge variety of emotions, and plus everything – bathing, medical and hotel services.

In August, a Parade of Flowers takes place in Debrecen, at which time many tourists from all over the world come here. Not far from Debrecen is the famous Hungarian steppe (empty) Hortobad, Hortobad international horse days and the Hortobad fair near the Nine Arch Bridge are organized here.
