Moon Valley “Vale da Lua”

The famous Moon Valley (Vale de Lua) is located in the National Park of Chapada dos Veadeyrus in the state of Goias in central Brazil.

The plateau on which the national park is located formed about 1.8 billion years ago. Local rocks are the oldest on Earth: they are only 2.5 times younger than the moon.

For many millennia, the waters of one of the oldest rivers on Earth – the San Miguel rivers have honed the natural quartz, from which the local rocks consist, to the most bizarre and unnatural forms.

Another point is the bizarre craters dotting the rocks of the Moon Valley. They formed in the valley for centuries, under the influence of water and wind. In some places, between the craters, there are remains of petrified plants.
