Brilliant St. Petersburg
May Petersburg welcomes guests with warmth and bright sunshine. But, of course, not always so lucky. Petersburgers like to complain about the weather and talk about the cold and dank city. I don’t know, maybe it is. And in fine weather, Petersburg is simply beautiful! Spring, Neva joyfully shimmers in the sun without frowning at all. Isaac, Winter, Admiralty. The mood is great. There are many tourists on the streets, but this is not a crowd. The queues in museums are not long yet – while you are standing, there is just time to prepare yourself for a meeting with the beautiful. In restaurants and cafes there are always free tables.
Every year, planning another vacation, children’s vacation or holiday weekend, the thought comes to a trip to St. Petersburg. It doesn’t matter that I’ve been there many times. With each new visit, you discover the city in a new way. It all depends on age, mood, life circumstances.
Schoolchildren in St. Petersburg will be remembered for interesting thematic museums, the cruiser Aurora, and personally witnessed places and monuments, which were discussed in history textbooks and classics novels from the school curriculum.
Young people will be happy to discover the romance of white nights, modern spaces for entertainment, go to a concert and find new friends in one of the night clubs on Konyushennaya. Newlyweds, if they don’t play a wedding in one of the palaces, they will definitely kiss under the Kissing Bridge and, embracing, will admire the bridges.
Older people around every turn of the street, in the spiers of temples, in the luxury of palaces will see historical characters from the past, fighting for power, intriguing, making palace coups, winning fortunes or going on end. Those who are nostalgic for the bygone Soviet Union will see the places where the two revolutions began.
It’s great that over the past centuries much has been preserved. As before, the Neva carries its waters to the Gulf of Finland, lions and sphinxes guard the peace of people, bridges part, passing ships. 11 emperors ruled here, severe floods occurred, leaving their mark on the masonry. The city survived riots and revolutions, the blockade. But he didn’t forget anything, but he absorbed this memory of the past and is willingly sharing with everyone who is ready to accept this knowledge and emotions.
In St. Petersburg, you can give up for a couple of days or stay longer. Good weather – walk along the promenade and parks. Bad – dozens of museums of world significance to choose from. Yes, what … Only the Hermitage can be studied for more than one month.
The Hermitage is one of the largest museums in the world. According to the guides, if you stop near each exhibit for 3 seconds, then it will take 3 years to inspect them. If we consider everything in detail, then it is necessary to highlight 11 years of his life. Halls, corridors, passages with a total length of 25 km are not in a hurry. It’s best even before visiting the Hermitage to decide what you want to see the most, and not try to grasp the immensity. With the boys, go to the East and Knight’s Halls to the stunning Military Gallery with portraits of the great Russian military commanders. With girls – to the Golden and Diamond Pantry, where jewelry of different centuries is collected, starting from the products of Scythian masters. Lovers of paintings are waiting for 40 halls of Italian painting, which exhibited among other paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.

If you are lucky with the weather, do not waste time and start with the main thing! 30 km south of St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful palaces in Russia and Europe – Peterhof. The palace complex with the park rises above the Baltic. Two parks – Lower and Upper – are delimited by the palace that Rastrelli reconstructed. The lower park is spread over 100 hectares. Many fountains have been built here, the most beautiful of which, the Grand Cascade, is connected by a canal to the Gulf of Finland. The upper park is more quiet, calm. Only 5 fountains work here. Near the Lower Park there is another natural corner – Alexandria Park with a royal house called Cottage and Chapel.
